About Julian Bugden

I’m a photographer based in Melrose & Edinburgh, with a background in film and television. I grew up in Tasmania, Australia where I was mentored under film director Rolf De Heer on a Screen Australia–funded feature film.

From there I went on to write, direct and produce a short drama shot on location in Tasmania with AUstralian cinematographer Joshua Lamont ACS, which screened at the Oxford International and St Kilda Film Festivals.

After moving to London, I worked with the BBC & Fremantle Media on Michael Portillo’s Great Coastal Railway Journeys, supporting shoots and scouting locations across Snowdonia & Cornwall.

IN Scotland, I transitioned into still photography, bringing that experience in storytelling, composition, and on-location work to every project. My portfolio spans Europe, with images made in London, Lisbon, the west of Ireland, Northumberland, the Cotswolds, Melrose, and Edinburgh. I’m continually drawn to the stories and faces of these places and the way people inhabit the landscapes around them. I collaborate closely with clients to create images that feel considered, authentic, and true to the moment.

Let’s create something together.
